Session length

A couples session is 80 minutes

That is the whole answer. The rest of this page says why.

Fifty minutes is the usual length of a therapy hour. With two people, it runs out as each of you finishes your first thought. Eighty minutes leaves time for both of you to speak, for Louise to slow the conversation down and for the last few minutes to settle before you go home.

How the time is used

How eighty minutes usually go

  1. Step 1: The first ten minutes

You arrive and settle. Louise asks how the week has been, and each of you has a turn.

  2. Step 2: The middle hour

Most of the work. You talk, Louise guides, and the pace is slow enough for the other person to hear.

  3. Step 3: The last ten minutes

Louise slows things down again. You say what you are taking home, and you choose the next time.

If eighty minutes feels too long

Some couples find the full time tiring. Say so at the start of a session. Louise can take a pause in the middle, or you can meet every other week instead of every week.

The fee is the same for every session, so a longer or shorter week does not change what you pay. The fees page explains how it is set.
